Commonwealth War Graves Commission Summer Tours 2024

August 18 @ 2:00 pm - October 13 @ 5:00 pm

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission commemorates the 1.7 million men and women from the Commonwealth who lost their lives in the two World Wars, ensuring they will never be forgotten.
Funded by member governments, the CWGC now maintains cemeteries and memorials at 23,000 locations in more than 150 countries throughout the world.

This summer, the Commonwealth War Graves Commission is offering guided tours at local cemeteries.
With plenty of opportunity for questions and discussion, you will learn about the work of the Commission and hear the remarkable stories of some of those who died in the two world wars and are buried in the community.

The tour at Lesmahagow Cemetery will take place on Sunday 18th August at 2 pm.

The tour at Hamilton (Bent Road) Cemetery will take place on Sunday 25th August at 2 pm.

The tour at Strathaven Cemetery will take place on Sunday 8th September at 2 pm

The tours will be led by a volunteer for the CWGC who is “well informed and an excellent communicator”, “a mine of information” and “very helpful at responding to questions”.

Tours are free but must be booked in advance at www.cwgc.org and following the links to “Visit Us” and “War Graves Tours”
